Annual Support to Orfanato Dom Orione Continues to Bring Hope and Care to Vulnerable Children

Maputo, Mozambique — Every year, MozParks reaffirms its commitment to social responsibility by supporting Orfanato Dom Orione, an orphanage in Maputo that provides comprehensive care for children with special needs, through donations.

Known locally as Obra Dom Orione, the institution is a non-profit association with over 16 years of activity in Mozambique and has become a national reference in the care of children with profound disabilities. Its mission is to provide shelter, holistic care, and promote the dignity of children with disabilities who find themselves abandoned or living in extreme poverty.

The orphanage offers specialized care to over 52 children living with various psychomotor disorders, ensuring protection, continuous support, and a safe, humanized environment through permanent residential care. In addition, Obra Dom Orione extends its support beyond institutional care by assisting vulnerable families in the surrounding community, offering psychosocial support and basic food baskets to children with special needs living in family settings, as well as access to a dedicated dental care room and a physiotherapy centre. This approach strengthens family bonds, helps prevent abandonment, and promotes inclusion within the child’s community of origin.

During this year’s visit, MozParks was represented by its General Director, Onorio Manuel, who was warmly welcomed by the children and staff. The visit provided an opportunity to witness firsthand the resilience, care, and sense of belonging that define the orphanage’s daily life, reinforcing the importance of safe and nurturing spaces for society’s most vulnerable members.

This annual initiative is made possible through the collective effort of MozParks’ team.

Gaza Province and MozParks Join Forces to Boost Industrial Growth and Youth Employment

Gaza Province has taken an important step toward strengthening its industrial future with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Provincial Executive Council of Gaza and MozParks. This agreement officially launches the Gaza Parks Initiative — a partnership focused on turning local potential into real economic opportunity.

Gaza Parks envisions the development of a network of industrial parks owned by the Provincial Government of Gaza and developed and operated by MozParks, designed to support economic growth, create jobs, and keep value within local communities. Each park will be built around large anchor projects, and is expected to generate up to 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. By bringing suppliers and related businesses into the same location, these parks will create efficient industrial ecosystems where companies can grow together.

Gaza’s youth are at the center of this effort. Through the MozYouth Foundation, MozParks is expanding paid internship programmes that help young people bridge the gap between education and the job market. These programmes offer practical experience, build work-ready skills, and open clearer pathways to employment. More than 2,000 young Mozambicans have benefited nationwide to date, and the introduction of MozYouth in Gaza marks the start of a targeted effort to prepare local youth for emerging opportunities in the province’s new industrial parks.

Gaza Parks initiative forms part of MozParks’ broader national vision, developed alongside the Government of Mozambique, to establish industrial hubs in every province and strengthen the country’s industrial base.

Speaking at the launch event, Gaza’s Governor, Margarida Sebastião Maphandzene Chongo, said that relying on raw material exports limits economic development and that local processing and transformation are necessary to create jobs, generate income, and grow exports. She noted the need for coordinated action and confidence in local capacity.

Gaza’s industrial potential was also highlighted by MozParks’ General Director, Onorio Manuel, who pointed out that sustainable development depends on producing what the country consumes and adding value locally. Increasing domestic productionleads to broader economic impact, from job creation to improved livelihoods for families and communities.

Gaza’s Provincial Director of Industry and Commerce, Lucia Matimela, expressed optimism about the province’s industrial future, particularly in value-added sectors. She called for strengthening local production and processing capacity, including the use of agricultural by-products, to ensure that industrial growth is sustainable and profitable.
