The Beluluane Open-Air Centre for the Elderly was alive with laughter and camaraderie last week, as over 300 attendees came together to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons.
Organized by MozParks in collaboration with the Province of Maputo, the event embraced the theme “Aging with Dignity is a Human Right: Let’s Take Care of the Elderly,” highlighting the essential need for community engagement and support for the elderly.
The event welcomed 225 elderly participants, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. Dignitaries including Governor of Maputo Province Manuel Tule, Boane District Administrator Guilhermina Kumaghwelo, and Matola-Rio Mayor Abdul Issufo shared messages of inclusivity, emphasizing the value of every elder’s story and contribution.
A traditional lunch, lovingly prepared by the elderly, served as a delicious reminder of their continued contributions. The celebration featured a ceremonial cake cutting, cultural performances, and the distribution of thoughtful gifts that brought smiles to many faces.

Generous contributions from partner companies such as Bosch Rexroth, RA International, Nat-Africa, CICOTI, LDA, Mozal, Godrej, and Raxio played a crucial role in the success of the event, demonstrating the power of collaboration in fostering an inclusive environment.
Onório Manuel, General Director of MozParks, expressed gratitude for the community’s participation and called for continued action, urging the community to remain engaged in advocating for the rights and well-being of older generations.
Since its establishment by the United Nations in 1991, the Day of the Older Persons serves as a global reminder of the importance of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of older generations.
At MozParks, we recognize the profound impact that elderly individuals have on our community. Their rich experiences and insights serve as a foundation for wisdom that benefits us all. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment that honors their contributions and fosters inter-generational connections.
On September 27, MozParks proudly participated in World Cleanup Day, hosting a cleanup event along Av. Da Marginal and within Beluluane Industrial Park. This initiative underscored the vital role of teamwork in tackling environmental challenges and promoting community involvement.
Our dedicated team of employees, representing both genders equally, united under a common goal: to raise awareness about pollution and take tangible steps to improve our surroundings. We collected 14 bags of waste, including glass, plastic, paper, and various other litter from the public roads surrounding MozParks facilities in Beluluane and Triunfo area.

The impact of our efforts extended beyond the volume of waste collected; it fostered a strong spirit of collaboration among employees, highlighting the power of collective action in addressing environmental issues and reinforcing the importance of sustainable practices, leaving a lasting impact on the community’s environmental footprint.
The cleanup also served as an educational platform, raising awareness about waste management and environmental conservation.
This local action is part of a larger global effort, as World Cleanup Day 2023 saw approximately 19 million people from 198 countries come together to collect a staggering 219,000 tonnes of waste. This impressive achievement reflects a growing collective commitment to environmental stewardship, emphasizing how each individual’s efforts contribute to a broader movement for change.
MozParks is honored to be part of this global initiative, demonstrating a strong commitment to fostering a cleaner and more sustainable future for all. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our environment and inspire others to take action in their communities.
