Mozambique – As part of his official visit to Mozambique, Malawi’s President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, visited yesterday Beluluane Industrial Park (BIP), the largest industrial park in the country, operated by MozParks. Hosted by Onorio Manuel, General Director of MozParks, the visit aimed to gain insights into Mozambique’s thriving industrial and trade sector. The tour further strengthened the ties between the two neighboring countries and explored opportunities for industrial collaboration.
The visit provided an opportunity for President Chakwera to witness firsthand how MozParks is contributing to Mozambique’s industrial success and to consider how similar models could be applied in Malawi.
“MozParks is a success story,” President Chakwera remarked. “I am happy that I came to see it, and I hope we can replicate the same model in Malawi to boost job opportunities and drive our industrial growth.” African Special Economic Zones Alliance (ASEZA), an alliance which is replicating MozParks model across the African continent expressed the interest to partner with the Malawian Government in replicating the model to Malawi.
During the tour, President Chakwera also visited Midal Cables, one of the key players within BIP, and was impressed by the scale of their operations. He expressed admiration for the company’s manufacturing processes, particularly its production of aluminium alloy rods and wires, which are exported globally.
“The magnitude of manufacturing and exporting activities witnessed today are worth emulating in Malawi,” President Chakwera stated. “I am impressed by how Midal Cables conducts its business, and it aligns with my vision for industrial growth in Malawi.”
